We found the steps online here, and they even organized it into a nice little picture slide show which we loved. So let's get started!
First things first, here's what you need to have:
-A fresh pot of coffee
-A bottle o' whiskey
-Heavy whipping cream
-However many mugs you'd like
The first step is to put some hot water in the mugs to warm them up. Leave the hot water in the mugs until the outside of the mug is warm to the touch.
Now you will want to drop two sugar cubes into each mug.
After those sugar cubes are nicely nestled in the bottom of your mugs, pour the fresh coffee on top. Pour until each mug is about 3/4 full.
Now that the coffee has been added, stir until those sugar cubes dissolve. This literally took us no time at all because the coffee was so hot the sugar cubes basically melted instantaneously. The double stirring action by Becky helped a lot, too.
Once the mugs are almost filled, it's time for the whiskey! The website we used suggested using 1.25 to 1.5 ounces of whiskey per coffee. We used 1/8 cup (one shot) for each coffee. It's really up to you - if you like whiskey feel free to be a little more giving.
Now for the whipping cream. We put some of the whipping cream into a large measuring cup, one of those with the lip for pouring. Whisk until the cream starts to thicken and becomes frothy.
Once the cream is ready, hold a spoon on the surface of the coffee while you pour the cream on top. That will help avoid splashing the Irish coffee everywhere, and helps distribute the cream. Once your coffee creations have been topped, enjoy! Everyone deserves a mid-week celebration!
